About PASSit

What is PASSit?
PASSit is an online revision service from Oxford University Press, designed for use by junior doctors preparing for their postgraduate professional exams.  It provides practice questions reflective of these exams, selected further reading, and analytical tools to help users identify their strengths and weaknesses, and focus their revision accordingly.

Which exams are covered by PASSit?
PASSit currently offers modules covering the MRCP Part 1, MRCS Part A, Primary FRCA, Final FRCA, MRCPsych, and First FRCR Physics (Clinical Radiology) exams. New modules covering additional exams are planned throughout 2013, and will be announced on the PASSit homepage: www.passit.co.uk

Who should use PASSit?
PASSit has been developed to provide revision support for junior doctors preparing for UK postgraduate professional exams. It currently offers modules covering the MRCP Part 1, MRCS Part A, Primary FRCA, Final FRCA, MRCPsych, and First FRCR Physics (Clinical Radiology) exams.

How can I use PASSit?
PASSit is available on subscription - you can subscribe to the module that is relevant for your exam. Subscriptions are available for periods of 1, 2, 3, or 4 months.

How often are questions added?
Questions are added to PASSit on a regular basis. For the current number of questions available on PASSit visit the About page.

How to buy


How can I subscribe to PASSit?
Please visit this page. You’ll be asked to select the module and length of subscription, and enter it into the ‘shopping basket’. You’ll then be taken to OUP’s secure ecommerce system, where you’ll be asked to provide your contact details in order to register your subscription, and payment. Once your payment has been authorized, you’ll receive an email confirming that your subscription as started. Your PASSit subscription will start as soon as your payment has been processed.

I’m an MPS member. How do I claim my discount?
To claim your discount, you will need to visit the MPS website at: www.mps.org.uk/PASSit. Once you have validated your MPS membership number you will be presented with a list of the modules available, simply click your chosen module and you will be redirected to Oxford’s ecommerce system, with the discount already loaded.

Can I try PASSit before I take out a subscription?
We are unable to provide trial subscriptions. However, you can view a short demo before subscribing by clicking on the video link on the PASSit homepage.

When will my subscription start?
Once your payment has been authorized, you will receive an email containing your login details.  The period of your subscription (1, 2, 3 or 4 months), will start from the point your payment is accepted.

What happens when my subscription finishes?
You’ll receive an automated email to let you know that your subscription is close to ending.If you selected a 30 day subscription, you’ll receive this reminder 7 days before it is due to finish.For all other subscription lengths, you’ll receive the reminder 14 days before it is due to finish. You can either choose to renew, or let your subscription lapse, as planned.

What happens to my scores when my subscription finishes?
Your scores will be retained within PASSit However we will not keep any personal details, such as your contact or payment details. If you decide to take out a new subscription at a later date, using the same login, you will be able to access the data from your previous subscription. If you take out a new subscription with a new login, you will not be able to access your previous subscription data.

What should I do if my contact details change?
You can update your email address by logging in with your existing email address and password, and clicking on your user name in the top right of the screen.

What happens if I need to cancel my subscription?
Unfortunately subscriptions to PASSit are non-refundable.

Which browser should I use?
PASSit is optimized for use on the latest versions of Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Internet Explorer version 9.

What’s the best screen resolution to view PASSit in?
We recommend you configure your PC or device to a minimum of 1024 x 768, however the site is optimized for mobile and iPad resolutions too.

Who writes the questions for PASSit?
All the questions in PASSit are written by qualified doctors who have completed the relevant postgraduate exam. The questions are then reviewed by subject experts and then moderated by a senior clinician. A full list of question contributors and moderators can be found by clicking on the relevant icon on the PASSit homepage.

Can you print out questions and answers from PASSit?
You may print out questions and answers from PASSit . However, it is very important you read the Legal Notice which includes information on printing, first.

How are the further reading links selected?
The further reading links are selected by the question writers and represent what they believe is the best explanation of the topic available.

How much content is available via the further reading links?
Abstracts are freely available to all PASSit subscribers. Additional material is available depending on what other subscriptions you or your institution currently have. You can recommend Oxford’s online content to your librarian by visiting: http://www.oup.com/online/recommend/medonline/

How do I return to a skipped question in ‘mock exam’?
Skipped questions are indicated by markers in the progress bar, as below. In this example, the user skipped question 3.

To return to the skipped question, click on the marker on the progress bar, answer it as normal, and click submit.

Why can’t I see the answers in ‘mock exam’ mode?
Simply finish and submit the exam to see your score, and click ‘view results’ to access the answers and other analytical tools.

How are the ‘my results’ graphs and tables calculated?
The ‘my performance’ graph shows your pass rate, as a percentage, on clusters of 10 consecutive questions.
In the example below, your average score on questions 280 – 290 was 60%. This graph allows you to see your ongoing performance as you progress through PASSit .

The ‘detailed results’ table shows your average score on all questions you’ve answered on that topic, and your average score you achieved in your last mock exam, compared to what other PASSit users achieved on that topic. In the example below, on ‘pharmacology – respiratory’ questions, you scored 60% on average in all the exams on that topic, and 60% on questions on that topic in your last mock. The average score by other subscribers on all questions on that topic was 24%.

The ‘comparison against peers’ graph shows the percentage score other PASSit users scored on your chosen exam in blue, and how you performed, in green.

In the example below, your average score for the MRCP Part 1 module is 14%. 70% of users scored either the same or more than you.
